Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
